Forced Break and Lover Boy Keith

"Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."

We have all heard, all our lives that adage.

Unfortunately, I was forced to re-learn it today.

I have been wishing that life could slow down for just a moment.  That it could take a break and let me just rest.

Early this morning, I stumbled into the bathroom, on my way out, I stepped out on a plug.  It went through my heel, removing a large chunk on its way out.  I am now forced to sit around with my foot elevated, hoping the bleeding will stop soon.

Oddly, it doesn't hurt at all, but it looks like it may need stitches.  However, I am going to have to wait until Tuesday when the clinics are open.  Quite frankly, I don't want stitches.  I am going to do everything in my power to keep from having to have them.  I don't even know why I am so opposed to stitches.  I just don't want them.  However, I am forced to take things easy now.

In other news, Keith just makes my heart pitter patter.  He is amazing.  Seriously.  When my boy grows up, I pity the girls who will know him.  He is a stud, and he is only four years old.

This is a typical day at school for Keith.

I know I have mentioned it before, but seriously, come on!  The girls are drawn to him like Winnie the Pooh to his pot of honey.

He knows I have been having a hard time.  The most common phrase out of his mouth lately has been "Mommy, do you need a hug?"  Of which I am very happy to oblige.  Lots of hugs from my little man make me happy.  But he figured that out all ready.

Last week my sweetie (Keith) asked me if I wanted to go out on a date with him.  Of course, I jumped all over that.  After much deliberation, he decided to take me to Red Robin.  They have arcade games there. And burgers.  A little boy's heaven.

While we were eating our food, we talked, and made up stories, and laughed a whole lot.  It was dreamy.

He showed off his Mr. Universe enviable abs for a while.

Then, we decided to go get some ice cream.

Keith decided on vanilla bean with Reeces peanut butter cups.  I still can't figure out where he came up with that combo.  It is exactly what I wouldn't have chosen.  But it was his ice cream and he loved it.  That is what is important, right?  We had so much fun.  I am so glad he came up with that idea.

On the way home, we talked about our date.  I told him that the next time he should hang out with daddy.  He couldn't date Daddy, because dates are only for girls.  But he could hang out with Daddy.

"Why is it called 'hang out,' Mommy?" he asked.

I honestly didn't know.  As I tried to figure out a suitable answer for him, he came up with one on his own.

"Oh, I know.  It is because we have to go to our rooms and pick up all our clothes and hang them up before we can go out and hang out with our friends, right?"

I jumped all over that one.  "You are absolutely right, Keith.  That is exactly why it is called 'hang out.' You are so smart!"

"Yep, I am smart.  But Faye is smarter.  She is a genius.  I hide her things, but she always finds them.  She is so smart."

I was floored.  "You hide your sister's things?  Why?" I asked.

"So I can help her to be smarter.  I have to help her be really smart so she will be ready for preschool and kindergarten.  She will be the smartest girl in her school.  But I have to hide them better because she always finds them too fast.  She is a genius."

I had to laugh.  I praised him for taking care of his sister, and helping her to be so smart.  He is just wonderful.  Gosh, I love that boy.  He is a huge gentleman in such a tiny body.  Girls, beware!  He has recently taken up giving me foot massages, supporting me as I hobble around the house, and stroking my face while singing me songs to help me feel better.

Pay attention to how your boyfriend treats his mother.  That is how he will treat you.

This is also something every girl has heard.  With Keith, some girl is seriously going to strike gold.  But it does make sense, he has learned from the best.

Haha that's so funny that he hides her things so he can help her be smarter!!!

If you wait too long to go in they usually won't do stitches... infection risks or something along those lines. I hope it feels better soon, it really -looks- painful!

Ouch! That looks like it hurts!

On another note...Keith is adorable! I love all those pictures with the girls just fawning over him. Watch out Amy, you're going to have a lot of fun with him in 10 years or so!

As I recall, you can only have stitches within a certain amount of hours...and I think it's 12 or less.

As for Keith, he's a keeper!

Keith is definately a young studly boy! I was just laughing at him with all of those girls. They are definately drawn to him!! He sounds like such a sweetheart.

As for your foot - OUCH! That looks super painful. I cannot believe that plug just went right into your foot. I hope you don't need stitches.

And seriously that boy of yours!! Love how he hides her closer to make her smarter. Too cute.

Sounds like a wonderful date

Oh no. That poor little foot of yours! I hope you don't need stitches.

Thanks for sharing your 'date' with us. It made me smile.

Super Glue. That's what they use in the ER nowdays. Try that first. :) Cheaper if you do it yourself.

brennan is a lover too. we've had many talks about how we don't kiss our friends and only hug them if they are ok with it b/c he is so excessive. i wouldn't want stitches bc i wouldn't want to pay the er bill. but that's just me. becareful of infection or you'll end up in worse shape. i was supposed to get stitches in elementary school for a gash on my thigh but refused. i think i was 9 and my mom new i was in charge, haha, so she didn't make me go, but then it ended up getting infected and it was a bigger mess than before. i think the stitches would have prevented that from happening. feel better soon!

Owwiee.. I'm glad you have a good helper aiding you in your recovery =)
Keith cracks me up... Him and Sammy are so much alike in some ways... Sammy has decied that the girls are ok to "hang out" with but she has to sit next to the boys and she talks about them all the time... And the last time I did preschool the boys fought over the seat on either side of Sammy... The girls just ingnored the situation and found seats on the other side of the table... Same thing at story time, and duck duck goose... Both the boys are great kids so I just have to remind her we can hug are friends but no kissing =)

Oh Amy, you should have called me on your foot. What exactly did you step on? Have you had a tetanus shot recently? I hope you were able to get in to someone. With puncture wounds, it's better to let them drain so that an infection doesn't set in and form an absess. We usually only do a delayed closure with them. And we did use super glue a lot when I was on my ER rotation but only on areas that are nonweightbaring. It wouldn't hold up on the bottom of your foot. If you have any questions call me. I'd be happy to help!

Owieowieowieowie! I do hope your foot is feeling better quickly!

And that Keith. What a gem, indeed. I need to go on a Mommy hang-out with my girls soon (since I can't date them...)

I haven't read your blog in so long due to my work schedule I was doing for a couple months. Anyway, sounds like you have some super fun mommy moments to write about. This morning I was reading an ABC news article that was saying to not praise your kids about being smart but to praise their hard work/efforts instead. It was interesting. I had just told my son he was smart yesterday so now I'm rethinking things.
