Last night was the first "meeting" for the Date of the Month club that I gave Jeffrey for Christmas. I was excited all day. I thought the activity would be extraordinarily fun. But he was late and tired, and I was wearing heels for the first time since being pregnant, and sore feet and tired husbands do not mix.
However, we did get something fabulous out of the date.
We had gone to a bookstore and while we didn't do the challenges we were supposed to, Jeffrey did encourage me to go look at the cookbooks.
I love cooking! I really enjoy creating new foods, and playing with different seasonings, and the most fun is when a creation is complete and watching the look on people's faces as they eat it. Of course not all my foods turn out and the disappointment at having made something less than satisfactory is deep, but I just chalk it up to learning and generally don't make that particular food again.
So we looked at the cookbooks and I am so happy to now have an addition to my cooking family!
I am of the vegetarian persuasion. I very rarely eat meat for many personal reasons, but one being I am not a huge fan of the taste. So when I found the vegetarian section I was overjoyed. as I do not have any vegetarian cookbooks. And when I saw a sale for 1,000 Vegan Recipes by Robin Robertson I was like a giddy little school girl. 1,000 recipes for the trying, all containing vegetables! I can learn new ways to incorporate veggies into my diet! New ways to cook beans! What bliss, what excitement!
After we got home last night I began pouring over the book. There is a rather comprehensive intro which talks about each nutrient necessary for the body and how to best get it without compromising standards. I can't wait to try some of these recipes tonight! And now, I will have more than just the regular 15 recipe rotation we generally use.
So while our date didn't turn out at all the way it was supposed to, we are both happy in the thought that we will now have better foods to eat, and more variety. Yay!
