Warning! Controversial Content
This is entirely opinion, or rather thoughts that haven't quite made a decision yet... Read at your own risk!
I know that what I am about to write is extremely controversial, but it has been on my mind a lot lately, and I would like to see what other people think about it: I was reading a blog a while ago and something in it really got me to thinking. The author said that most Latter Day Saints inadvertently break the Word of Wisdom. It was said that the LDS are generally very good about keeping the don't sections ie. don't use tobacco, don't use alcohol... etc, but the do's they are pretty bad at. D&C 89 talks about using the herbs and plants of the ground, and then continues to tell us that we should eat meat sparingly, only in times of famine, winter, or cold. Now from growing up, we had meat at almost every dinner, especially Sunday dinner. If there wasn't some type of meat on my plate, I thought that Mom had forgotten something. Reading that kind of bothered me, so I began to scour the scriptures looking for instructions, because I really want to do what's right, but how can I if I don't know? Well, I found a few things. The scriptures tell us (as stated before) to eat meat sparingly... in times of famine, winter or cold. The other day someone was reading that to me, and had left out the pause from the coma, so I thought that it was "And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine." Well, I thought that I had finally had my answer, but upon reading it again today, I see that it actually says "Yea, flesh also of beasts, and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine. " Which tells me that it is better to not use it. Another point I learned from the scriptures is that we are told that a sign of the coming of times is people saying to abstain from meat. So, what do you do? Really, I want to know. I know that it is slothful to be commanded in all things, but I really haven't a clue! I have been trying to find the answer to this dilemma for a couple of weeks now. Now don't think I am promoting vegetarianism or anything like that, I am simply trying to find out what the Lord's will is. In argument of hardly ever eating meats, I found this article, which is making me lean more towards cutting back on my meat a lot, but I know that there are many arguments for the eating of meat out there. Anyways, just let me know what you all think.
